Some scientists have argued that language is what sets humans apart from all other animals. The Wernicke’s Area is an important part of the human brain that involves understanding language. It was discovered by the German neurologist Carl Wernicke. The Wernicke’s Area is located in the posterior section of the left cerebral hemisphere. People who had an injury or lesion to this part of the brain could speak but it often did not make any sense. This disability was later named Wernicke’s Aphasia. It is one of the two parts of the cerebral cortex while the other part is the Boca’s Area. Without the Wernicke’s Area we would not be able to speak and understand language.
