Cell Body
Also called soma, the cell body is part of the neuron that contains the nucleus. It’s largest part of the cell and holds the general parts of the cell. It does not include the dendrites or axon. Some times called the “factory”, the cell body produces protein for other parts of the cell such as axons dendrites. It has specialized organelles such as mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum. It also gets rid of some cellular waste. The cell body, is where metabolic reactions take place that allow the cell to live.
